About This Tour
Lake Kivu is one of Africa's Great Lakes and one of Rwanda's most beautiful natural treasures. Stretching 90 km along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, the lake sits at 1,460 metres above sea level and is surrounded by misty green hills.
The lakeside city of Rubavu (Gisenyi) is the main gateway, offering beautiful beaches, fresh seafood and a laid-back atmosphere. Boat trips to Amahoro Island and Napoleon Island (home to thousands of fruit bats) are popular excursions, as is the scenic Congo Nile Trail for hikers and cyclists.
