About This Tour
Rwanda is a top-tier African birding destination, hosting over 700 recorded bird species across three distinct and dramatically different ecosystems — making it exceptional value for serious birders who want maximum diversity in minimum time.
Nyungwe Forest National Park is the crown jewel of Rwandan birding: one of Africa's oldest and most biodiverse rainforests, home to 29 Albertine Rift endemics — birds found nowhere else on Earth. Species include the Albertine owlet, Grauer's warbler, Shelley's crimsonwing, red-collared mountain babbler and the giant hornbill.
Akagera National Park offers classic savannah and wetland birding: the critically rare shoebill stork, saddle-billed stork, grey crowned crane, African fish eagle, malachite kingfisher and abundant papyrus-specialist species across its lake circuit.
Volcanoes National Park adds montane forest species at high altitude, including the Rwenzori turaco, handsome francolin, Kivu ground thrush and mountain buzzard.
Rwanda SafariTours works with specialist birding guides who carry field guides, maintain species lists and have decades of site-specific knowledge. Custom single-day and multi-day birding itineraries are available for all experience levels.
